@Kevin OK, probably a matter of semantics, but it's the titles that have been unified, not the championships.

@Alex Yes, you are right about West Germany, and although that country no longer exists its record should be passed to Germany.

I’m not sure you mean these Championships have been “unified”. In most cases that means that the next winner of one wins them all, as in boxing. Of course the next world cup winner doesn’t necessarily become EC too, if they’re from the western hemisphere they aren’t even eligible. You just mean there is a unified champion.

I believe (West) Germany have also been triple champions, having won the European title in 1972, and the World Cup and UFWC titles in 1974.

We started as nr. 5 in 2008, we left Russia behind us – revenge for Euro 2008 – and the longest run in UFWC history. I think we can be proud! After all, we have one of the best two teams in the world, we have reached the final, no one can take that away from us any more!

So let’s look forward now. Crying won’t make a change, but if we keep doing well maybe we can win the World Cup next time!

As a scotsman, your non-British comment amuses me – I’m sure the same won’t be true for many Englishmen! If only Robben had potted one of his chances, eh? Not a great game, but a great goal to finish it. It would surely have been great if the Dutch could have carried their stunning UFWC run all the way, but, ah well….

Looking forward to 2014 already, here’s hoping that the UFWC title finds it’s way there too…
