Scorers: Coates, Rolan (Uruguay), Caicedo (Ecuador)

Matchday 11 of the CONMEBOL 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification section saw unofficial football world champions Uruguay see off challengers Ecuador in the 923rd UFWC title match. The result keeps Uruguay second in the WC qualification table, a point behind Brazil. Next up, Uruguay travel to Chile for matchday 12 on Tuesday, 15 November.

All three goals were scored in the first half. Sebastian Coates opened the scoring for Uruguay, before Felipe Caicedo equalised in the 44th minute. Within 60 seconds, however, Uruguay were ahead again through Diego Rolan. The final score was 2-1.

This was Uruguay’s 26th UFWC title match win, putting them clear of France in 10th position in the all-time UFWC rankings.

Next opponent Chile have 18 title match wins and are just two places behind Uruguay in 12th position in the rankings. Chile were unofficial champions as recently as September.
