Germany hold world champions France in UFWC clash

FIFA and UFWC World Champions France were held to a goalless draw by Germany in a match of few chances, which the Germans slightly shaded. This was the first match for both side in the new UEFA Nations League, involving all 55 UEFA member associations of UEFA, with the league phase running from September to November 2018 and the finals taking place in June 2019. France were without World Cup-lifting captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris due to injury. Fellow goalkeeper Steve Mandanda was also injured. Alphonse Areola made his international debut, and the PSG keeper produced a man of the match display.

Germany vs Argentina: World Cup Final rematch

Less than two months after the World Cup Final, where Germany defeated Argentina to become official FIFA and unofficial UFWC champions, the two sides come together for a rematch. This friendly, at the Esprit Arena in Düsseldorf, was arranged back in March, long before the World Cup took place in Brazil. The coincidental rematch gives Argentina the chance to gain some form of revenge. Although the FIFA title will remain with Germany for the next four years, the UFWC title is up for grabs as the winner-stays-on alternative football competition continues.

After playing out two draws, Unofficial Football World Champions Argentina returned to winning ways in impressive style. A half-fit Lionel Messi had made only cameo appearances from the bench during the previous two matches, but here he was returned to the starting line-up with spectacular results. Challengers Guatemala - playing in their first ever UFWC title match - were completely blown away.
