This was the tenth time the UFWC title had been contested at the WC final, and the 17th time the UFWC and FIFA title had been “unified”. So the winner of the World Cup final, either France or Croatia, could claim to be the undisputed official FIFA and unofficial UFWC football world champions.

UFWC at the World Cup: Croatia beat England to take UFWC title into WC final

The UFWC title reached the penultimate stage of the FIFA World Cup as reigning Unofficial Football World Champions Croatia played original UFWC champions England. Croatia took the title from Denmark in the round of 16, then beat Russia in the quarter finals – with both wins coming via penalty shoot-outs. England were the first UFWC champions in 1873 – 145 years ago. They beat Colombia in the round of 16 and Sweden in the quarter finals to set up this clash. As a reminder, whoever wins the 2018 World Cup final will unify the UFWC and FIFA titles and become undisputed unofficial and official football world champions.

The UFWC title reached the quarter finals stage of 2018 World Cup in the hands of Unofficial Football World Champions Croatia, who faced hosts Russia. Croatia took the title from Denmark in a penalty shootout win in the round of 16. It was Croatia’s first ever UFWC victory. Russia are one of the most successful sides in UFWC history, with 41 UFWC title match victories. After just three more matches, the UFWC and FIFA unofficial and official titles will be unified, and one nation will be crowned as the undisputed football world champions. Could Croatia hold on, or would Russia take the title into the semi finals?

Peru retain UFWC title against Croatia in Miami

Reigning Unofficial Football World Champions Peru retained their title and served a notice of intent ahead of the World Cup finals in this warm-up match against European qualifiers Croatia, played in the US, at the home stadium of the Miami Dolphins. Peru completely dominated against a strong Croatia side, and comfortably won 2-0, despite being reduced to ten men in the second half. André Carrillo and Edison Flores scored the goals. Next up for Peru is a match against Iceland, on Tuesday, in New Jersey.
