Germany hold world champions France in UFWC clash

FIFA and UFWC World Champions France were held to a goalless draw by Germany in a match of few chances, which the Germans slightly shaded. This was the first match for both side in the new UEFA Nations League, involving all 55 UEFA member associations of UEFA, with the league phase running from September to November 2018 and the finals taking place in June 2019. France were without World Cup-lifting captain and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris due to injury. Fellow goalkeeper Steve Mandanda was also injured. Alphonse Areola made his international debut, and the PSG keeper produced a man of the match display.


Comparing the FIFA and UFWC rankings

FIFA have announced their latest world rankings, and it’s no surprise to see current Unofficial Football World Champions France moving to the the top of the list following their World Cup win. The win also moved Les Bleus up the UFWC rankings, but only up to 10th position. Having unified the official and unofficial titles, France are football’s undisputed champions. And they are one of only four teams are ranked in both the FIFA and UFWC top tens, the others being England, Brazil and Uruguay. France: a UFWC history

When France beat Croatia in the World Cup Final this summer Les Bleus became the undisputed official FIFA and unofficial UFWC football world champions. It was France‚Äôs 26th UFWC title match win, and it moved them into the all-time UFWC ranking top 10. And it was their third “undisputed” title win – a feat only Brazil, Germany and Italy have matched. France’s long UFWC history goes back to 1927. As they begin their latest title reign, let’s look back at that history.
