Unofficial world champs Peru qualify for official World Cup

Peru defeated New Zealand in this winner-takes-all UFWC title match and World Cup qualification play-off second leg. The result means that Peru remain Unofficial Football World Champions and qualify for the World Cup finals. That doesn’t guarantee that the UFWC title will be contested in Russia next summer, however, with plenty of football to play before then.

New Zealand and Peru draw in first match of UFWC / WC clash

First-time UFWC challengers New Zealand held Unofficial Football World Champions Peru to a goalless draw in this first leg of the OFC–CONMEBOL World Cup qualification play-off. In a game of few chances, Peru had the majority of the possession, but couldn’t get an away goal. The second leg will be played in Lima on Wednesday, 15 November, with all to play for.

New Zealand challenge Peru in WC / UFWC double-header

Unofficial Football World Champions Peru face UFWC virgins New Zealand over two legs of the OFC–CONMEBOL World Cup qualification play-off. Peru haven’t qualified for the World Cup since 1982 – when they had their last reign as unofficial champions. New Zealand also qualified for the World Cup in 1982, and again in 2010. But New Zealand have never before played in an Unofficial Football World Championships title match.
